Graduate Application Instructions
Bachelor's to Master's/Doctoral Program: within same program (Type 2)

for International Applicants


Application Instructions:
 
  1. Complete Online Expedited Application Form.  If you are a currently enrolled Senior at The University of Alabama applying to the Master’s or Doctoral program in the same department or area as your Baccalaureate Program.  Use of the Expedited form requires that applicants have completed at least 91 hours and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.
  2. Upload your Statement of Purpose online. This assessment of your potential as a graduate student and of your aims and aspirations as they relate to graduate study is one of the most important parts of your application. Departmental and Graduate School admissions directors read this statement with care and regard it as a self-evaluation and formal example of your writing skills. Please login to "Manage Supporting Documents" to upload your Statement of Purpose and other documents (if required by your intended department).
  3. The application fee is waived for University of Alabama seniors whose departments accept expedited applications.
  4. Request official test scores, as required by department (refer to departmental section of Graduate Catalog), be sent from test services (ETS:GRE, PearsonVue:GMAT, Harcourt:MAT) to the Graduate School.
  5. Some departments require additional application materials. See the Graduate Catalog to review departmental application requirements.
  6. Deadlines: All components of your application should be completed and received by the Graduate School at least six weeks prior to departmental deadlines. If the department does not specify a deadline, all application materials must be received by the Graduate School at least six weeks prior to the intended semester of enrollment. See the Graduate Catalog to review departmental application deadlines.
  7. Assistantships, Fellowships, and Financial Aid: Many types of financial support are available, including Graduate Council Fellowships, Graduate Council Research Fellowships, McNair Graduate Fellowships, departmental teaching assistantships, and departmental research assistantships.  Please contact the department in which you are interested to obtain information and application procedures for assistantships and fellowships. Applications for loans and workstudy assignments must be made through the Office of Student Financial Aid, Box 870162, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0162. Additional information about financial support for Graduate School can be found in our Financial Assistance Handbook.
  8. Visa and Financial Documents: Applicants must provide proof of ability to finance graduate studies by Completing the Non-Immigrant Visa Information Questionnaire and Certificate of Finances Form. All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified English Translations.
  9. Your application will be complete when all materials listed above are received by the Graduate School Office.
