| TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Terrance
Hayes will read from his poetry on Thursday, Jan.
24, at 7:30 p.m. in 205 Smith Hall on The
University of Alabama campus as part of this years
Bankhead Visiting Writers Series at UA. The event
is free and open to the public. Hayes is the
author of Muscular Music, which won
the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and a Whiting
Writers Award. His second volume of poetry,
Hip Logic, was selected as a National
Poetry Series Open Competition Winner and is
forthcoming from Viking Penguin.
His work has been anthologized in Giant
Steps: The New Generation of African American
Writers and American Poetry: The Next
Generation. His poems have appeared in
numerous literary journals and poetry magazines
including The Southern Review, Chelsea,
and Crab Orchard Review. He teaches at
Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
