TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Melanie Rae Thon will read from her
fiction on Thursday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Morgan
Auditorium, as part of this year’s Bankhead Visiting Writers
Series at The University of Alabama. The event is free and open
to the public.
Thon’s most recent novel is “Sweet Hearts.” She is also
author of the novels “Meteors in August” and “Iona
Moon,” as well as the story collections “First, Body” and
“Girls in the Grass.” Thon was included on Granta’s list
of 20 “Best Young American Novelists” in 1996.
She has received grants from the National Endowment for the
Arts, the Ohio Arts Council, and the Mrs. Giles Whiting
Foundation. Originally from Montana, she has taught at Emerson
College, Syracuse University, University of Massachusetts, and
The Ohio State University. She currently teaches at the
University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
