UA College of Education Launches Superintendent's Academy
Dr. Ed Richardson, superintendent for the Alabama Board of Education, recently met with UA administrators, including UA interim President Barry Mason, about the new UA Superintendent's Academy. The UASA concept was initiated by the State Department of Education to assist the department in attracting and training a larger and wider pool of candidates for superintendent positions around the state. UA's College of Education received a grant from the Department of Education to develop and staff the academy. UASA will also offer professional development to sitting superintendents. Internet links will allow superintendents to communicate with each other and the University to seek suggestions, answers, or support for day-to-day problems. Six weekend institutes are planned to offer participants instruction from leaders and experts in the field as well as intensive problem-based learning experiences.
