TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Yuebin Guo, assistant professor of
mechanical engineering at The University of Alabama, recently
received the Society of Manufacturing Engineers 2003 Jiri Tlusty
Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award.
SME presented Guo with the award at the North American
Manufacturing Research Conference in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
He was one of eight academic recipients, and one of 12 overall,
in recognition of significant achievements and leadership in
manufacturing engineering.
“We’re very happy Yuebin has been recognized in this
manner,” said Dr. William Sutton, head of the department of
mechanical engineering. “He is a prime example of the quality
faculty we have in UA’s College of Engineering.”
The SME is the world’s leading professional society
supporting manufacturing education. Headquartered in Michigan,
the society has members in 70 countries and hundreds of chapters
worldwide.
In 1837, UA became the first university in the state to offer
engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation
to do so. Today, the College
of Engineering, with about 1,900 students and more than 90
faculty, is one of the three oldest continuously operating
engineering programs in the country and has been fully
accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the
1930s.
