Day of Silence Events Call Attention
to Anti-LGBTQ Harassment

On April 15, 2011, members of the University of Alabama community will have the opportunity to participate in the Day of Silence. The Day of Silence is a national movement dedicated to increasing awareness of the silencing effect of anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment. Students across the country take vows of silence for all or part of the day.

University of Alabama students are invited to congregate at the Ferguson Plaza at noon on April 15 to eat lunch together in silence. Students are asked to bring their own lunch to this event.

At 3 pm on April 15, speakers from the Alapine Village will lead an open discussion. The Alapine Village, located in northern Alabama, is a community of lesbian women committed to sustainable living and nonviolence. The open discussion will take place in Ferguson Forum.

The Alapine speakers will also join in a Breaking the Silence ceremony at 6 pm in the Ferguson Game Room. Light refreshments will be provided.

Here's the event flyer.
