Scholarship Payments to Needy Students

Scholarship Payments to Needy Students:

1. Departmental Scholarships for Summer Semester
Any graduate student who has been directly impacted by the tornado and who has financial concerns about his or her tuition, text book purchases, fees, or any other UA charges related to the summer semester should contact the home department for assistance. Where the department wishes to award tuition and/or fee scholarships under these circumstances, please send the following information to Kathleen Nodine or John Chambers in the Graduate School:

(1) Student name(s) and CWID(s),
(2) Amount of dollar award for each student,
(3) Official name of the scholarship fund from which the awards is to be paid, and
(4) The Banner FOAPAL of the award fund.

Please use the Graduate Scholarship Payment Form which can be downloaded from the Graduate School’s web site at: http://www.graduate.ua.edu/admin/forms/awards_payment.pdf.

2. Graduate School Scholarships for Summer Semester
Where departments do not have discretionary funds to support scholarships for tuition or fees for the summer semester, the Graduate School has set aside additional scholarship support for a limited number of awards for graduate students directly impacted by the tornado. Department heads should email the Dean of the Graduate School with the following:

- Confirmation that the department does not have scholarship funds available
- Name and CWID of the student they wish to nominate for a summer scholarship
- Brief statement of the circumstances why the student is deserving of support and how the disaster has impacted them.

Awards may be made at the dean’s complete discretion.

3. Graduate School Scholarships for Needy Students
In instances where departmental support and funding from the Acts of Kindness Program still result in a serious unmet need, the dean of the Graduate School will review nominations from department heads for graduate students directly impacted by the tornado and who have justifiable emergency short-term financial need which is not covered by any other UA, local, or federal assistance. Please email the Dean of the Graduate School with the student’s name and CWID and a statement of the student’s situation and how the tornado has impacted him or her. Include a description of the financial need.

Awards may be made at the dean’s complete discretion.
