Graduate Student Association

The University of Alabama Graduate Student Association was established in 1990, as an independent organization, for the purpose of serving the unique needs of graduate students. Today, the graduate students are making up almost 15% of the total student body. The GSA serves as a forum to express the concerns of the graduate community to the University administration. It also attempts to enhance the quality of the graduate educational and social experience through the provision of information, programs, and activities that may benefit graduate students. To meet these goals, social, academic, informational and self-improvement programs are offered throughout the year. Monthly meetings are held during which current issues and activities are discussed and new concerns raised. All graduate students are automatically members of the Graduate Student Association, though we encourage you to become more involved by participating in any of our activities. Additional information about upcoming activities can be picked up at the GSA office, located on the third floor of the Ferguson Center. The GSA is led by a Board of Directors, whose membership consists of graduate students from across campus. Board members are either elected or appointed according to the provisions of the Charter of the Graduate Student Association, which was created and is modified and updated by members of the Board of Directors of the GSA. All organizational information is specified in this charter, which can be viewed from this website.
