Jessica Peck – Nursing

Jessica Peck is a graduate student completing her final semester in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program in the Capstone College of Nursing. Jessica has been a Registered Nurse for 14 years. She has a Master’s Degree in Pediatric Nursing and holds national certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. Jessica recently completed a post-master’s program for Nursing Education and is also credentialed as a Certified Nurse Educator by the National League for Nursing. Jessica has an interest in fusing innovation and technology into health care delivery. Her current research project is entitled “Smart Phone Preventive Health Care: A Parental Immunization Reminder System Based on the Health Belief Model,” for which she received the “Innovation in Practice” Award from the graduate faculty of the Capstone College of Nursing as well as a faculty research grant from the Alpha Delta chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Jessica is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing (established in 1890 on beautiful Galveston Island as the first school of nursing west of the Mississippi) and was recently voted “Outstanding Faculty of the Year” by the BSN accelerated track. She has also been selected as the Gold Medalist for the 2012 Excellence in Nursing Awards in the Nursing Education: Faculty category. Jessica is passionate about using innovation and evidence-based practice to educate and equip future nurses to provide the highest possible quality of nursing care in a synergistic and holistic environment. She is enthusiastic about the opportunity to help impact and shape the future of nursing. She maintains her clinical practice through a pediatric primary care clinic in her community. Jessica is also the faculty advisor for the Butterfly Project, an interdisciplinary student volunteer organization that serves bereavement populations at UTMB and in the surrounding community. Jessica has been married to her husband Shane for 14 years and has extended her love for pediatrics into her home with four children of her own, ages 9, 7, 5 and 3 years of age. They reside in Houston, Texas.
