Tawanna Samuel – School of Social Work

Tawanna Samuel is a native of Ralph, Alabama and a student in the Master’s of Social Work program. At the age of 19, Ms. Samuel became a foster parent. Ms. Samuel’s love of children has continued. She is currently a licensed therapeutic foster parent with Brewer Porch Children’s Center. At The University of Alabama Ms. Samuel started the Graduate Social Work Organization (GSWO) and is the MSW student representative on the Field Education Advisory Committee. The GWSO has become an important advocacy, outreach, and awareness group. In the community Ms. Samuel has been recognized for her service to the Community Soup Bowl. One of Ms. Samuel’s favorite quote is “I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you”. – Oprah Winfrey
