Angie Smith

Social Work PhD

Angie is a first-generation college student in the Social Work Ph.D. program. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Montevallo and her master’s degree from the University of Alabama. Both degrees are in the discipline of social work. Along with working on earning her doctoral degree, she works in The School of Social Work as an instructor teaching undergraduate students and as a Tide Together peer mentor.

Her research interest is in police encounters by exploring the lived experience of Black college students. Angie’s goal after graduation is to become a professor at a university and continue mentoring students.

In her spare time, she enjoys watching sci-fi and fantasy movies. Some of her favorites include Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings.
