Civil Engineering PhD
Sunday Okafor is doctoral candidate in Transportation Systems Engineering at the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering. He obtained his bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Nigeria and his master’s in Civil Engineering from Nottingham Trent University, UK, in 2019. His master’s program was fully funded through the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship.
He currently works with the Alabama Transportation Institute at the University of Alabama as a Graduate Research Assistant, and his research interests include traffic safety and inclusive mobility.
He is passionate about assisting prospective graduate students in navigating the initial process from application to moving onto campus by directing them to the appropriate resources and providing informed advice. As part of his profession, he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). He has also served as the Treasurer and President of the African Students Association at the University of Alabama.
