Artificial Intelligence for Operational Hydrology

Flyer for the Artificial Intelligence: Operational Hydrology Summer Bridge Research Experience for Undergraduates at The University of Alabama, May 17–July 24, 2026. Offers $5,680 stipend and free housing. Research focuses on AI and machine learning for hydrologic process monitoring, open-source workflows, and decision support for water resources. Eligibility: GPA 3.2 or higher, programming experience, interest in water resources, and majors in computer science, engineering, math, or related fields. Application deadline: March 1. Program Description

  • Workshops to strengthen your technical skills in computer programming, artificial intelligence, geospatial analysis, and hydrologic forecasting.
  • Capacity building and mentoring to advance your professional skills for success in graduate school and the workforce.
  • Collaboration with teams of UA faculty, research scientists, and students to advance your research skills related to emerging computational methods and tools for flood and drought monitoring and forecasting.
  • Unique networking with scientists at NOAA, USGS, other federal agencies, and businesses connecting you to opportunities for internships and careers
