About the Tide Together Graduate Mentor Program
The Tide Together Graduate Mentor Program is an academic support program that helps traditionally underrepresented students in graduate programs reach personal and professional success as they navigate the higher education journey. This includes students of any race, national origin, ethnicity or gender who face social, economic, educational, or other challenging life circumstances; whose parents did not complete a four-year college or university degree; have a physical or mental impairment; are from a disadvantaged background (including but not limited to students who were or currently are unhoused; were or currently are in the foster care system; were or are eligible for Federal Pell Grants; grew up in a U.S. rural area), or other similar circumstances.
The Tide Together Graduate Mentor Program utilizes a team approach to mentor graduate students who are currently pursuing or plan to pursue doctoral studies. Program participants are matched with faculty mentors and a graduate student peer mentor. The primary aim of the mentoring program is to help graduate students acquire the personal and professional skills needed for success in their future careers. Through a comprehensive approach, the Tide Together Graduate Mentor Program addresses the academic and social needs imperative for success in a graduate program and beyond.
The Tide Together Graduate Mentor Program helps create an effective social and academic support system for students through this team mentoring; academic, wellness, and career-oriented symposiums and workshops; and both formal and informal social events.
