Program Description

Data Science is one of the fastest growing STEM fields. The data science profession is ranked the 4th best technology job, 7th in the STEM field, and 8th overall (US & World Report News). Even if becoming a data scientist isn’t your primary goal is, enhancing your analytics skillset will make you more competitive for graduate programs in a wide variety of academic disciplines, and can create opportunities for career advancement in just about any field.

This summer program will cultivate your data science and analytics skills through the Python programming language. Topics include data visualization, working with databases, working with web data, and learning about Python’s statistical analysis packages. Participants will also gain valuable research experiences that focus on the logistics of alleviating food insecurity, or conduct research that involves the collection, cleaning, and analysis of open data sets related to drugs, guns, and human exploitation. The primary objective of this program is to prepare participants for graduate programs in business analytics, applied statistics, management information systems, operations management, and related fields.
