Mechanical Engineering

Program Description

To prepare participants interested in graduate studies, we are providing a course to teach core research competencies including theoretical modeling, simulation, designing experiments, developing proof of concepts and prototypes, programming, testing, taking measurements, collecting and processing data, analyzing data, utilizing data and models for controlling dynamic systems, and communicating research in writing to find success. To accomplish this, participants will take an intensive 10-week project-based course to develop and build an inverted pendulum on a cart. This will be a hands-on project with direct engagement from faculty advisors intended to represent an abridged research project. By the end of the project, the participants will have been introduced to a standard process for carrying out research that encompasses the core competencies necessary to succeed in a Master’s or PhD program.
